Vietjet Enters Interline Partnership with Qatar Airways
Kuala Lumpur, 12 October 2017
Vietjet recently announced its two-phase interline partnership with Doha-based Qatar Airways, an agreement which will prove beneficial in serving the interests of both parties involved.
Accordingly, the first phase which came into effect in September enables Qatar Airways’ passengers to travel to and from points in Vietnam and in Taiwan served directly by Vietjet. The next phase will soon allow Vietjet’s passengers to fly to over 150 points around the world served by Qatar Airways using a single reservation across both airlines’ networks.
“We are delighted to welcome Vietjet to our growing roster of interline partners as they allow us to provide a more seamless experience for our passengers. The new agreement with Vietjet will offer our passengers even more choices, providing them an easy connection in Ho Chi Minh or Hanoi before transferring to their Qatar Airways flights,” said Mr. Akbar Al Baker, Group Chief Executive of Qatar Airways.
“This partnership is a pillar of Vietjet’s strategy to diversify our services with an aim at offering our passengers greater travel opportunities and connections to various points in the world. We will continue to partner with other airlines based on advanced technology platforms to better benefit our passengers,” said Ms. Nguyen Thi Thuy Binh, Vice President of Vietjet.
Qatar Airways is commencing two non-stop operations connecting Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City to Doha with frequencies of double daily flights and ten weekly flights, respectively.
Earlier this year, Vietjet and Japan Airlines (JAL) also reached a formal partnership agreement to start a code-share corporation for all flight services between Japan and Vietnam as well as the domestic flights of both airlines. The code-share cooperation also includes flights between Vietnam and other Asian countries. Through the partnership, both JAL and Vietjet also agreed to explore opportunities to develop the cooperation in various areas, including a frequent flier partnership, aircraft operations and maintenance, as well as ground handling services and training.
