Fraport Twin Star Airport Management welcomed 3.8m passengers in 2015
3.8m passengers welcomed Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD at Varna airport and Burgas airport in 2015.
Due to the increase in scheduled flights and the decrease compensated with flights from some of the tourist markets, the overall annual decline in handled passengers was only 4%- much better than expectations at the beginning of the year.
Serviced flights were 30,230, which is a 3% decrease compared to the last year. Cargo traffic marked record results at both airports, with 95% growth of serviced cargo flights.
More than 10 million Bulgarian levs were invested in Varna Airport and Burgas Airport in 2015 for the implementation of infrastructure projects related to the runway and apron, buildings and roads, purchase of new equipment, etc. Automation of the processes for faster and more efficient service to customers, partners and employees is part of a long-term strategy of the company, which runs from the beginning of the concession and continues to develop over time.
In 2015, the Career Development Centre at Fraport Twin Star Airport Management AD was ranked first in the category “Career Services for Non-students” in Euroguidance National competition for innovations in career development.
At Burgas airport: the largest aircraft and the latest generation aircraft
Burgas airport is the first in Bulgaria, which serves the latest generation cargo airplane of the group Boeing- B747 800F.
During the summer season 2015, Burgas airport welcomed for the first time in Bulgaria the latest generation passenger airplane of Boeing group- B787 Dreamliner.
A total of 2 360 320 passengers to 125 destinations of 40 countries served Fraport Twin Star Airport Management at Burgas airport in 2015. The largest, despite the decrease of 22%, remains the share of the passengers to and from Russia, followed by the UK (9% increase) and Germany (decrease of 16 %).
In 2015 there was an increase in the number of the passengers to and from Poland, the Czech Republic, Israel, Belgium, Finland and others. Decrease was registered for the passengers from Belarus, Norway, and the Netherlands.
Moscow, Tel Aviv, London, Prague and Minsk are the most popular destinations in 2015 at the airport.
The longest non-stop flight operated from Burgas Airport in 2015 took 5 hours from Burgas to Novosibirsk (Russia), at a distance of 4147 km.
Varna airport: increase of the scheduled flights and the first in Bulgaria off- airport check-in
The scheduled flights at Varna airport increased by 22% in 2015, compared to the previous one.
The winter schedule of 2015 contains the largest number of flights in the history of the airport.
In 2015 Fraport Twin Star Airport Management served Varna Airport 1 398 694 passengers to 89 destinations of 39 countries.
For the first time in several years the German market overtook Russia in terms of the total share of passengers handled at the airport, and at the same time marked 14% increase over last year. The passengers to and from Russia, registered a decrease of 33%. Another growth was registered for the travellers to and from Britain, Turkey, Poland, Austria, Norway, Denmark, Iran, and Czech Republic. While the passengers from/to Belarus, Belgium, Lithuania, marked a decrease.
Moscow, Sofia, London, Düsseldorf and Istanbul are the most popular destinations in 2015 at Varna airport.
For the first time in Bulgaria, Varna airport offered check in off airport (off-airport check-in). First class service was provided to customers who used this service directly at the hotel.
