Bahrain Airport Company (BAC), the operator and managing body of Bahrain International Airport (BIA), signed an agreement with Gulf Business Machines (GBM) in Bahrain to establish its Aviation Cyber Security Operation Center (AV-CYSOC), which will advance and complement the airport’s existing security infrastructure, IT/OT systems, and network infrastructure.
The agreement was signed at the Bahrain International Airshow by BAC Chief Executive Officer Mohamed Yousif AlBinfalah, and GBM Bahrain General Manager Abdulla Ishaq.
With support from GBM, BAC is proactively implementing the precautions necessary to ensure cyber risks to the airport remain under control and operations remain uninterrupted. Early detection, followed by a quick and effective response, is essential in this ever-evolving threat landscape. The formation of the AV-CYSOC will help the airport combat the increasing cyber threats the aviation industry faces today and will provide the reassurance needed.
BAC CEO Mohamed Yousif AlBinfalah said: “Bolstering the security of BIA is essential for us, as BAC is committed to delivering safe, seamless, and enjoyable travel experiences. With support from GBM, BAC will implement strong proactive measures to detect and respond to advanced cyber security incidents and risks, thus advancing BIA’s cyber resilience, and ensuring smooth operations for staff and passengers.”
GBM Bahrain General Manager Abdulla Ishaq said: “We’re proud to be partnering with BAC to boost the aviation sector’s development, which is a key driver of the national economy in line with Bahrain’s Economic Vision 2030. As security threats across industries increase, it’s essential for organizations to have the right people, processes, and technology in place. GBM will play a key role in supporting this by enhancing the airport’s analytics and reporting, developing resources on cybersecurity best practices and building strong proactive measures, thus protecting their digital assets and enhancing their customers experiences.”
The AV-CYSOC comes at a time when securing an organization’s data, infrastructure, and systems is directly correlated to the organization’s success. It has become apparent how valuable IT is to organizations, especially in recent years, and to the aviation industry even more so. GBM’s security offerings will allow organizations to focus on what is important to them while ensuring their assets are secure.
GBM has supported organizations in the GCC for over 30+ years as a leading end-to-end digital solutions provider, offering a broad portfolio that includes industry-leading digital infrastructure, business solutions, security, and services.
