SAS debuts more international services from Aarhus
First Scandinavian Airlines flights to Spain take off from fresh looking AAR
Monday 27 June marked the debut of new SAS scheduled sunshine services direct from Aarhus as Scandinavian Airlines took off to Palma de Mallorca for the first time from Denmark's second city. Flights are operated on Mondays by Airbus A321 aircraft throughout the peak summer period, the first time that SAS has connected 2017s European Capital of Culture to the Mediterranean's best known sunshine island.
Departing Aarhus at 1615 and arriving at 1500, Palma is already serviced by tour operator charters from the airport, but the new "SK" flights are a new feature from Scandinavian complimenting multiple daily services between Aarhus and both Stockholm and Copenhagen. International passenger numbers have already reached up to 22.5% monthly increase year on year at Aarhus, with London, Stockholm Arlanda, Stockholm Bromma, Oslo and Gothenburg schedules all performing well and leisure destinations including Funchal, Paphos and Tenerife also selling well in 2016. Cumulative international growth is at 13% in 2016 while domestic growth is at 7.5% year to date
Aarhus Airport's terminal is undergoing final phases of a fresh new look and major facility improvements, including a new glass exterior and terminal frontage, a significant increase in welcoming and open check-in and departures space, flooded by naturally light and raising the customer experience significantly. The city is 2017's European Capital of Culture and also hosts Aarhus 2018 ISAF World Sailing Championships. Aarhus is Scandinavia's 5th largest metropolitan area and largest non-capital city with over 1.38 million metro population
