Aarhus welcomes direct link to Central Europe by Czech Airlines
The first direct service to the Czech Republic and a Central European hub from Denmark's 2017 European Capital of Culture
Aarhus Airport welcomes Czech Airlines announcement of a new, strategic route that puts East Jutland in connection with major destinations across East, Central, southern Europe and beyond. Aarhus-Prague opens in May 2017.
Today sees ticket sales commence for a new service between Aarhus and Prague taking flight in early summer 2017 and ensuring Jutland travellers easy access to Central Europe's most visited destination and to dozens of onward cities spread right across Europe, the Middle East and Asia via the Czech capital. The new route will have an important positive impact for tourism and economic connectivity for the city of Aarhus and wider region.
"We welcome the launch of a particularly attractive route that will offer Aarhusians and mainland Danes quick and efficient access to world renowned Prague – a UNESCO world heritage destination and an "Alpha” global city for business – and from there to a host of other destinations via Czech Airlines hub. The route is also great news for inbound visitor potential and will naturally deliver an important contribution to tourism and commerce in Aarhus," says David Surley, Head of Airline Relations at Aarhus Airport.
"The popularity of Prague and the Czech Republic among Danish tourists has been growing every year. Last year, 5% more Danish passengers travelled to the Czech Republic than the year before. We would like to support and strengthen this tendency. Thanks to our new regular scheduled service connecting the Czech capital with Aarhus, the second largest city in Denmark and an academic and economic centre of Jutland, Prague has become easily reachable and thus more attractive for both tourists and business travellers. Just as Aarhus, we will, thanks to our route network and services of our partners, connect more with the world,” Ján Tóth, Czech Airlines Director for Commerce, said.
The opening of the route from 11 May 2017 is both a significant and ground-breaking development for Aarhus. For the first time ever East Jutland embraces direct connection between Aarhus Airport and the Czech Republic capital and hub. From Prague's Vaclav Havel Airport, Czech Airlines offers service to among others Budapest, Warsaw, Bratislava, Košice, Moscow, Odessa, Kiev, Skopje and Zagreb in the east, also south to points including Milan and Tel Aviv but also beyond towards East Asia. Prague ranks as Europe's 15th largest city and thus Czech Airlines' new route to Aarhus also serves as an important gateway to all of East Jutland for both Czech visitors and a large international customer base at a key point in time, facilitating excellent connectivity for many international visitors expected in Aarhus next year when the city is European Capital of Culture.
The route Aarhus-Prague will be operated by the SkyTeam member airline’s ATR72 aircraft offering both business and economy class service. Czech Airlines is known for its great value fares and the new flights fully reflect Aarhus Airport's development in quality connections to major destinations.
