New Benelux service pushes Aarhus past 100% international capacity growth

5th new international route in 2017: new Aarhus link from ‘Brainport’ from Winter 17/18

Aarhus Airport welcomed the news by Ryanair that it will open its 3rd northern European service at Denmark’s second city with new three times weekly operation between Eindhoven in the Netherlands and Aarhus, 2017 European Capital of Culture.  The new flights are in quick follow-up to Ryanair’s previous announcement of new service linking fast-growing Aarhus with the Baltic city of Gdansk, in Poland.

David Surley of Aarhus Airport welcomed the investment by Ryanair, saying “this is really an excellent forward development for great value travel to important markets for mainland Denmark and the city of Aarhus itself, bringing new capacity and convenience to a fast-growing region and connecting people, companies and communities where transport links were until now, rather difficult and time consuming.  Ryanair’s great value product is always welcome news for travellers wanting to get from A to B quickly, efficiently and with minimum fuss.”

Flights from the end of October will connect Aarhus with Gdansk on Thursdays and Sundays.  The newly announced service from Eindhoven will operate also to Aarhus from late October; every Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday.  The associated increase in seat capacity by Ryanair pushes its international operation at Aarhus to approx. 115% growth for the coming winter, alongside the established London Stansted route.  “This is significant for us here in Aarhus”, said Surley, “flights by Ryanair now connect us with three of the largest international markets for mainland Denmark when examined in detail, it is a high growth time for inbound travel to Aarhus which is shining as a thriving tourism destination as well as the Nordic region’s tiger-like economy with extensive urban, economic and high population growth.”

Eindhoven is well located at the heart of the so-called ‘Brainport’ region, within a 1 to 1.5 hour drive-time from the Rhein-Ruhr region of Germany to the east, the cities of Maastricht, Liege, Brussels and Antwerp to the south, and the Dutch cities of Rotterdam and The Hague to the west.  Like Aarhus, Eindhoven is a major development and research area, a high-tech market with great synergy to Denmark’s primary R&D, academic, energy and renewables market.

Eindhoven and Gdansk join already announced Prague, Malaga and Preveza-Lefkas as new destinations from Aarhus in 2017.
