Aarhus says “hej” to easyJet from 2018
New carrier and new destination; easyJet unveils new Aarhus link with Berlin
easyJet today announced further expansion of its Tegel Airport base in Berlin to include Aarhus, the largest city of mainland Denmark on its network for the very first time. easyJet has recently launched several new Scandinavian services from Berlin and Aarhus Airport welcomed news that it will become the carrier’s latest Nordic destination with a strategic direct link to the German capital.
“This is great news for Aarhus, great news for mainland Denmark and is a wonderful addition to our family of airlines and international routes”, commented David Surley, Aarhus Airport’s head of airline relations. “easyJet is a pace-setter and value travel leader in Europe, they are one of the most sought after brands in the aviation industry, so we are delighted that our city and region has attracted their attention and that Aarhus becomes part of such a compelling international network. We look forward to welcoming many easyJet customers and delivering them a great service as gateway to one of Scandinavia’s most exciting markets”.
Aarhus has seen an unrivalled 65% increase in visitors in just five years and only recently concluded its year as 2017’s European Capital of Culture. Visitor numbers from many international markets have soared in recent years and in 2017 Germany produced an 85% increase in hotel stays, becoming the largest overall international market by volume.
The schedule on sale as of today features two weekly services between Berlin and Aarhus, operated by easyJet’s 180-seat Airbus A320 aircraft, starting September. Berlin Tegel will also be added to the carrier’s ‘worldwide by easyJet’ product, offering connecting flights to its own and other airline destinations:
"Berlin is now one of Europe’s hottest and trendiest destinations for all types of travellers, both for city-breakers and culture-seekers as well as for business flyers. The German capital has without doubt become one of our most asked-for destinations”, said Surley, “we have seen a solid flow of indirect customers for some time. Direct service is sure to be extremely popular and this will be our second new link with Germany in 2018, as Berlin with easyJet becomes our 9th new route of the summer. Our route map has basically doubled”.
Berlin Tegel to Aarhus will be easyJet’s first scheduled service to mainland Denmark. Average weekly international seat capacity at Aarhus Airport is increasing by over 140% during 2018 amid accelerated growth.
“This is a fine city – young, vibrant, energetic and determined”, said Peter Høgsberg, CEO of Aarhus Airport, “easyJet is the perfect brand fit for Aarhus and Berlin is a staggeringly well-suited direct connection”.
