Edelweiss says in a statement that Iceland is one of the top trending destinations during summer for guests from Switzerland. The airline has a strong development of its route to Keflavik Airport in only two years of operation and sees that many people visit the whole country in summer, with particular interest in the nature highlights in the north of Iceland.
"We are very pleased that Swiss airline Edelweiss has chosen Akureyri as its new destinations in Iceland,” says Sigrún Björk Jakobsdóttir, CEO of Isavia Regional Airports. “This decision is the result of promotional work done by Isavia Regional Airports and our collaborators, Business Iceland, Austurbrú and Visit North Iceland. We have emphasized the development of more gateways into Iceland. Support from the Icelandic government has also been important. Edelweiss has a clear vision for Iceland and we are very happy to hear of the fact that their travellers want to experience the nature in the north of Iceland.“
Edelweiss is the leading Swiss leisure airline and flies to 89 destinations all over the world. Edelweiss is a sister company of Swiss International Air Lines (SWISS) and a member of the Lufthansa Group.
