Tourism Como. The little Pantheon on the shores of the lake, dedicated to Volta, holds a collection of the instruments used in his first experiments. Reaffirming the city’s connection with light is Daniel Libeskind’s installation The Life Electric, as well as the Festival of Light, which brings illuminated scientists, projections, and walkways.

Within the walls, Como reveals stunning arcades and Renaissance homes boasting exposed beams in Piazza San Fedele. Rationalist architecture from the 1930’s abounds thanks to the work of Giuseppe Terragni, while the late gothic façade and dome of Filippo Juvarra delight visitors. Art exhibits find a home in a the halls of the grandiose neoclassical Villa Olmo of the 18th century. An Italian Garden expands, dotted with horse chestnut trees, Cedars of Lebanon, Sycamores, and a fascinating greenhouse from the 19th century.

The complex is a part of the Chilometro della Conoscenza, the path connecting greenhouses, lemon groves, and Villas like Grumello and Sucota. Don’t forget to grab a boat for Bellagio, Menaggio, or Tremezzo to soak in the scene from the water.
