Greenland Shines on Intrepid’s ‘Not Hot List’ for 2025
Greenland Featured on Intrepid Travel's 2025 'Not Hot List' – Supporting Responsible Tourism Development.
Press Release, Nuuk, Greenland - In a year where global travel trends emphasize sustainability and mindful exploration, Greenland proudly announces its inclusion in Intrepid Travel’s esteemed Not Hot List for 2025. This recognition highlights Greenland’s dedication to responsible tourism and its allure as an off-the-beaten-path destination for intrepid travelers.
The Not Hot List, an annual publication by Intrepid Travel, shines a spotlight on lesser-known destinations that prioritize sustainability over mass tourism. Greenland’s selection, via Qeqertarsuaq (Disko Island), reflects the unparalleled experiences offered by the world’s largest island, from its breathtaking landscapes to its rich cultural heritage.
Visit Greenland CEO’s Statement
“We are honored to be recognized on Intrepid Travel’s Not Hot List,” says Anne Nivika Grødem, CEO of Visit Greenland. “Our focus has always been on fostering a balance between tourism development and community well-being. We believe tourism should benefit all of Greenland, and we invite travelers to discover the hidden treasures of our island, beyond our main tourism hubs.”
Intrepid Travel’s New Greenland Expedition
To coincide with the Not Hot List announcement, Intrepid Travel is launching a new 10-day Greenland Expedition, designed in collaboration with local tourism stakeholders. The journey, which starts in Nuuk and visits Ilulissat, Qeqertarsuaq, and Qasigiannguit, marks Intrepid’s first-ever land-based tour in Greenland, with four scheduled departures in 2025.
Developed with a focus on expanding tourism beyond the established hubs, the expedition supports community-led initiatives and local tourism. Intrepid Travel is one of the most respected B-Corp tour operators globally.
Grødem adds, “This decision to launch a program in Greenland validates our efforts to grow tourism responsibly.”
Destination Disko Bay’s Statement
Navarana Bidstrup, Destination Manager of Destination Disko Bay, also expressed her enthusiasm for the collaboration.
“We are proud to highlight the unique experiences that our region offers,” she said. “By building strong partnerships, we can offer visitors an authentic experience while ensuring tourism develops in a way that respects both our environment and culture. This approach helps us protect our natural beauty, support local communities, and create meaningful connections between travelers and locals.”
Intrepid Travel’s statement
“Our annual Not Hot List strives to bring travellers off the tourist track and inspire them to consider lesser-known destinations, while helping to spread the benefits of tourism to places where it can have an outsized positive impact on communities and local economies,” says Erica Kritikides General Manager of Global Product for Intrepid Travel. “We are thrilled to work with Visit Greenland on bringing this new land-based expedition to life,” she adds.
