Athens Tops the Major European Airports list in 2015
19.0% increase, with a European average of 4.9%
During 2015, 32 out of the total 33 main European airports (over 10mio pax/year), achieved growth. Specifically, 2015 presented an overall European pax growth of 4.9%. Athens maintained the leading position among European airports on a YTD basis, recording a robust increase of 19.0%. The second place was taken by Dublin that recorded a growth at the levels of 15.3%. London/ STN followed in the third place with an increase of 12.9% each, while Budapest followed closely, registering a healthy 12.5%. The top 5 list was complemented with Madrid, which demonstrated an increase of 12.0%.
The rest of the airports ranking above the European average were Lisbon (10.7%), Prague (7.9%), Brussels (6.9%), Amsterdam (6.0%), Barcelona & London/LGW (both at 5.7%), Manchester (5.2%) and Alicante & Rome/FCO (both at 5.0%). Although below the European average, increases were evident in Malaga (4.8%), Geneva (4.1%), Copenhagen (3.9%), Munich-Stockholm-Zurich (at 3.2% each), Paris/CDG & Nice (both at 3.1%), Gran Canaria & Helsinki (both at 3.0%), Dusseldorf (2.9%), Paris/ORY (2.8%), Palma de Mallorca (2.7%), Frankfurt (2.5%), London/LHR (2.2%), Oslo (1.8%), Berlin (1.5%) and Vienna (1.3%), while lastly a marginal decrease was observed in Milan/MXP (-1.4%).
