Athens International Airport becomes carbon neutral
Τhe first carbon neutral airport in Greece
One more accolade for AIA’s environmental protection efforts:)
Having already been accredited at the “Mapping” (2009), “Reduction” (2011) and “Optimisation” (2014) levels, we took a most significant step toward addressing the challenge of climate change: The Athens airport achieved carbon neutral status (Level 3+), certified by the independent carbon management programme Airport Carbon Accreditation.
Having, drastically reduced our carbon footprint from 2005 to 2015, we are very proud to be among leading airports, also through our reduced ecological footprint!
- There are now 25 carbon neutral airports in Europe, 2 in Asia and 1 in North America
- 180 airports are now Airport Carbon Accredited, welcoming 37.3% of global passenger traffic
