During April, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 1.64 million and presented a strong growth of 11.4%. This positive outcome was formulated by the diverse evolution of the domestic and international markets. International passengers enjoyed sharp rise of 18%, a fact which was supported by the coincidence of the Orthodox and the Catholic Easter and amounted to 1,12 million, the first time that April’s international traffic exceeded the 1 million mark. Domestic passengers were marginally below the 2016 levels (-0.4%), mainly due to the offered services reduction (-2,6%). Greek residents presented a marginal decline of -0.6%, whereas foreign residents enjoyed a strong growth of 22.5%.
Overall, during the first four months of 2017, the airport’s passenger traffic reached 5.36 million, exceeding prior-year levels by a robust 8.7%, with domestic traffic being slightly below the respective 2016 volumes (-1.6%), whereas international passengers enjoyed a sharp increase of 15.3%. Both Greek and foreign residents presented growth at the level of 12% and 4% respectively.
Flights: During the first four months of the year, number of flights almost reached 50 thousand (49,952) and presented a small rise of 1.1%. Domestic flights were reduced by 2.9% while international services showed an increase of 4.2%.
