International foreign arrivals Jan – Sep: +19.9%!

Athens’s resurgence to the fine top of tourism international destinations can be witnessed also in latest figures regarding foreign international arrivals in the period Jan – Sep 2018: With a total of +19.9%, top 7 top markets volume-wise are: USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Cyprus, and Spain. Percentage wise however, the most impressive growth was demonstrated by China (+85%), Poland (+74%), Romania (+58%), Russia (+47%), and Spain (+43%).
According to the following New York Times special on Athens, “it’s no surprise that Athens has greeted a record number of tourists this past year. Luckily for us visitors, there’s plenty to experience in this storied city…. There are cities that count their age by years; then there’s Athens, which can tabulate its history by millenniums. From battles and setbacks this ancient metropolis has rebounded again and again, proving itself to be resilient like no other.”
