May 4th: American Airlines’ Athens – Chicago!
A fantastic development for the Athens market
On Saturday, May 4th we celebrated together with AA its first flight from Athens to Chicago Chicago O’Hare International Airport!
The flight is connecting the two cities for the first time, and will operate through 29 September on Boeing 787-8.
The Athens – Chicago route is expected to be well-received by the Greek American community generally in the US but especially in Chicago, Illinois, which is home to the third largest community of Greek Americans in the country after New York and California

2013-2018: foreign pax to Athens increased by 119% (+19.5% in 2018)
2018: PAX (roundtrip / non-stop) @ 483,388 with +14.2% growth Best Record ever for ATH Foreign Residents Arrivals +10% (vs 2017) @ 679,683 pax (roundtrip / all connections). Based on AIA PAX SURVEY data, Chicago was the 2nd largest destination in the US for Indirect traffic volumes from/to Athens during 2018
2019, 4M: ATH to US (only New York up to April). PAX +11.2% (Jan to Apr 2019), direct / non-stop traffic. US 4th largest market during this period.
