“Digital Sky Challenge” in Athens!

We are very honoured to be the first airport in Europe to host the “Digital Sky Challenge” aviation challenge!

A 3-day (Dec 2-4) unique and innovative aviation challenge, that was organised jointly by the SESAR Joint Undertaking (JU) and ACI EUROPE at Athens International Airport, in the framework of the SESAR Innovation Days.

The event (that took place in a specially designed for the occasion airside facility) brought the young tech community together with key European aviation organisations to stimulate and create innovative digital solutions for aviation.

52 young software programmers, data scientists and designers from 11 European countries were grouped into 12 teams. Working around the clock for 48 hours, they competed for 3 different challenges (Passenger Experience, Environment and Safety) focused on streamlining the passenger journey, improving the environmental performance of Europe’s airspace and enhancing safety.

We feel privileged to have been able to contribute to the “reinvention” of aviation, through this dynamic and innovative 48-hour “digital sprint” that united the aviation industry on our premises!
