From the… Gate to Athens to India Gate!

India, a TOP unserved market for Athens is a strategic priority for the Athens International Airport and the City of Athens. In 2019, the market between India and Athens reached 100 thousand travellers, traveling indirectly, with the market recovering fast in the 1st half of 2023 and with positive trends for the remaining of the year. Main origin points in the Indian market for Athens are New Delhi, Mumbai and Bangalore. 

To increase the awareness of Athens and promote Greece overall in the Indian market, Athens International Airport in cooperation with the City of Athens and the Embassy of Greece in New Delhi/India, hosted a very successful Cocktail Reception at the Embassy premises on July 20th, 2023. Key players in the Indian tourism market like airlines, travel agencies, event planners and colleagues from Delhi airport participated. To showcase Athens and Greece  and underline  the cultural and culinary links between India and Greece, signature dishes from both the Greek and the Indian cuisine, as well as music and traditional Greek dances were the evening’s highlight. 

The joint initiatives undertaken by Athens International Airport and the City of Athens will continue with:

• the hosting  of an  event dedicated to the promotion of India to Greece, to take place beginning of November  at the Athens International Airport premises
• the participation in key Tourism events in India
• the organization of fam trips for Indian key players and media to Athens and many more
