“September vibes” with over 3mio PAX at Athens International Airport
Passenger traffic growth in September 2023 at 16.3% vs. 2022 and +11.8% to 2019
During September 2023, the airport’s passenger traffic amounted to 3.01 million, recording a new record for the airport with over 3 mio PAX for 3 months (July to September), when in 2019 only August had exceeded the 3mio PAX mark !!! Even June 2023, was just 73 thousand PAX short to 3 mio PAX. This development in September 2023, signifies the successful extension of the Summer season with traffic demand extended in a longer period of time.
Domestic and International passengers surpassed the 2022 levels by 14.6% and 17.2% and the 2019 levels by 16.3% and 9.9%, respectively.
Overall, during the first nine months of 2023, the airport’s passenger traffic totalled 21.68 million, above the 2022 levels by 25.7% and higher than the respective 2019 levels by 8.6%. Analytically, domestic and international passengers surpassed the 2022 levels by 20.3% and 28.3%, while also exceeding the 2019 levels by 11.3% and 7.3%, respectively.
Number of flights during the first nine months of 2023 amounted to 186,174, i.e. 12.9% above the 2022 levels and 5.1% above the respective 2019 levels. Analytically, both domestic and international flights were above the 2022 volumes by 7.8% and 17.4%, while versus the 2019 levels, the observed growth was at the level of 9.1% and 2.2%, respectively.
September 2023 indeed tried its best to have us forget Summer!!!
