Athens : A November to Remember ! …and the ACI benchmark for October with ATH topping the list..
Strong demand for travel to Athens continues non-stop setting a new record high for the airport
During November 2023, the airport’s passenger traffic amounted to 1.897mio , recording 18.8% growth to November 2022, but also 13.9% higher than the pre-pandemic November 2019.
Domestic and International passengers surpassed the 2019 levels by 18.9% and 11.7% respectively.
On the 18th of November 2023, passenger traffic at Athens International Airport surpassed full year 2019 in absolute numbers, with total traffic for 2019 ending at 25.573mio. This astonishing achievement, leaves a space of 43 days to year-end for the build up of the New high record.
Overall, during the first eleven months of 2023, the airport’s passenger traffic totalled 26.31 million, above the 2022 levels by 24.5% and higher than the respective 2019 levels by 9.9%. During this period the airport welcomed 2.377mio additional passengers to the same period in 2019.
Analytically, Domestic and International passengers surpassed the 2019 levels by 12.8% and 8.7% respectively.
Number of flights during the first eleven months of 2023 amounted to 225,334 i.e. 6.8% above the 2019 levels. Analytically, both Domestic and International flights were above the 2019 volumes by 10.2% and 4.2%, respectively.

For October and based on the ACI Europe benchmark in Passenger traffic, Athens International Airport outperformed and ranked 1st in the TOP category of Airport traffic above 25mio. More specifically, Athens recorded a 18.9% rise over 2019 in the TOP category with the airport of Palma de Mallorca following at 12.4% increase, by Paris with 11.0%, Lisbon with 9.5% and Istanbul at +6.9% to the same month in 2019.
