1.93mio Additional PAX during the first half of the year at Athens and… 3.29 million passengers in June 2024

Record June at Athens with 3,295,191 PAX achieving a growth of 12.7% vs, 2023

Spectacular traffic performance continues at Athens in June, achieving a new record with 3.295mio PAX and +12.7% growth versus June 2023. Last year, Athens International Airport achieved its TOP performance ever with 28.17mio PAX.

However, during the first half of the year, Athens is demonstrating a record performance with almost 2mio Passengers above 2023 already !!

Once again, the International front is the key driver in this growth with traffic surpassing 2.3mio PAX (International traffic) for the first time when compared to the last 18 months. Even, in the record July & August 2023, International traffic was just below 2.3mio mark.

Traffic in the Domestic front increased further with 994 thousand PAX in June 2024, achieving a growth of 7.4%

Flights increased as well, reaching 119.8 thousand for the 1st half of the year, recording a growth of 11.2% when compared to the same period in 2023.

The Airline Marketing team at Athens International Airport was once again busy in June, delivering 6 major airline events .:

 

June 1st

Aegean inaugural flight to Sarajevo, celebrated with a number of activations at the gate area. Delegates from Athens International Airport and Aegean Airlines delivered some short speeches and airport Mascot provided some good opportunities for pictures with Aegean passengers.

 

June 16th

Middle East Airlines (MEA) inaugurated the arrival of the brand new A321neo equipment on the Athens – Beirut route. Gate activations performed to celebrate this development.

 

June 19th

With the opportunity of resumption of Summer seasonal operations by Air Transat at Athens, a Trade event was organized and fully covered by Athens International Airport. Members of the local trade assembled at a location overlooking the Acropolis, while high level members of the Canadian Embassy at Athens participated. Canada is the 2nd strongest market in the American region for Athens with direct services to both Montreal and Toronto.

 

June 25th

A Press event was organized for Ethiopian Airlines by Athens International Airport at an Ethiopian restaurant downtown Athens, presenting the latest developments and services of the airline to the Greek public. Such activations are offered by the airport to boost brand awareness and sales for the airline in the local market.

 

June 26th

A Press and Trade event was organized by Athens International Airport for Sky Express with the opportunity of the Summer program, aiming to increase awareness and sales for the airline in the local market. Key speeches given by senior officials from Athens International Airport and from the airline Sky Express.

 

June 28th

On this specific day, Athens had the honor to welcome the first flight from Sharjah operated by Air Arabia, further enhancing Athens network to the UAE and the region. With this latest addition, Athens – UAE is now served by 5 airlines with flights operated by Aegean, Air Arabia, Etihad, Emirates & WizzAir Abu Dhabi. This is the thickest network that Athens ever had to the UAE. For this significant development, Athens International Airport organized an Inaugural event, followed by a Press event later that day and a Gala Dinner at night attended by the Air Arabia Group CEO Mr. Adel Al Ali and high level officials from both countries.
