easyJet’s spectacular growth at Athens in 2024, adding one more new destination in Summer 2025
Airline is embarking on a “new beginning” at Athens, expanding its presence as a key focus of its strategic development plan
easyJet is the first low-cost airline that started operations at Athens International Airport in 2001 Since then and up to November 2024, easyJet carried more than 11.5 mio passengers.
In 2024, easyJet “re-discovered” Athens with the addition of 7 new routes, operating 11.3 departures daily during the peak Summer season, connecting Athens to 6 countries with 17 routes. Pre-pandemic, the airline operated 10 routes at Athens with 51 weekly departures, increasing to 17 routes in 2024 and 79 weekly departures. As a result, the airline reached 855 thousand round-trip passengers at Athens in 2024, already recording a growth of 50% for the period Jan-Nov 2024 versus 2023.
For 2024, easyJet added Lyon, Bordeaux, Venice and London (LTN) operating year-round, plus Nice, Malaga and Palma as Summer seasonal. 36% of the airline additional PAX, compared to Jan-Nov 2023 are delivered from the 7 new routes introduced in 2024.
Next Summer, 2025, easyJet already announced the addition of Alicante to the Athens network and continuation of London (LTN), which started in November 2024.
On 10/12/2024, Athens International Airport organized and held in cooperation with easyJet a Press Event downtown Athens; all main Greek media attended the event producing wide publicity in the days following the event.
The Press Event is part of a larger customized Marketing Plan and Budget offered to the airline. Mr Lorenzo Lagorio, Country Manager Italy and Greece, Mr Maxime Debry, Network Strategy Manager, Mr Luca D’Isep , Airport Development Analyst and the rest of the team traveled to Athens and Mrs Kirsten de Haan, Head of European PR and Public Affairs presented the airline developments and key drivers behind this decision.
“For us, Greece, and especially Athens, is a location in which we want to invest more and further strengthen our presence”, Mr. Lagorio stated during the event.
