New Beginnings mean New Opportunities! 😊 Athens International Airport growing further in the first 2 months of 2025 with +11.7% to 2024

International Passenger traffic at 15.3% and Domestic at 3.6% to 2024

Passenger traffic continues to grow at Athens International Airport, on TOP of previous RECORD year for the airport. During the first 2 months of  2025, a total of 3.59mio PAX traveled to/from and via Athens, compared to 3.2mio last year, recording a growth of 11.7%.

International Passenger traffic grew faster by 15.3% and Domestic traffic by 3.6%, resulting in a total of 376,000 additional PAX to 2024.

January grew by 14.5% and February by 8.9%, however it is noted that February 2025 was by two days “shorter” that February 2024  ( February 2024 had 29 days -vs. 28 this year-  and on the 28th of February 2025, no flights were operated in Greece due to the Panhellenic general strike ).

It is interesting to note that up to the 27th of February, passenger traffic was growing faster to January 2025, as PAX traffic was up by 15.8% vs. February 2024. 

In the International market, Israel recorded the strongest growth to Jan-Feb ’24 by 113%, making Israel the 5th largest International market. Israel is followed by UAE with 55% and Albania by 35%. In absolute numbers, strongest growth was recorded at Israel, Turkey and France.

For the same period, available capacity at Athens increased by 11.4% vs.2024, demonstrating the balance between capacity and demand. Load Factors were impressive for the US market ( at 89%), with Spain and Hungary following with the same percentage. 

During this period, January to February 2025, Athens welcomed 4 New Destinations already.

  • On the 2nd of January, Air Haifa inaugurated Athens Haifa route
  • On the 7th of February, Israir connected Athens to Eilat
  • On the 13th of February Aegean inaugurated services to Las Palmas and on the 22nd of February to Erbil.
