Next week, on the 1st of April, Juneyao Air will celebrate its first-year anniversary at Athens. The airline inaugurated, for the first time ever, a direct connection between Athens and Shanghai.

During this first year, the airline carried over 60 thousand passengers to and from Athens, signaling the strong performance of this route.

The strong dynamics of the Athens-Shanghai route are further realized with the airline adding 1 weekly frequency, offering a total of 4 weekly departures compared to 3 weekly last Summer.

Starting from the 13th of April, Day7 will be added, increasing the available capacity on this route by 33% weekly.

Compared to pre-Pandemic, Direct traffic between China and Athens in 2024, almost doubled recording a growth of 90%, with Beijing - Air China and Shanghai- Juneyao directly connected to Athens!

And: ❗️❗️ ❗️The Summer’s 2025 big  addition for the Athens’ network:  one more Chinese carrier from a third Chinese city! Will be announced by the airline within the next couple of weeks! Stay tuned!

At the Atlantic side of the world, the overall growth of the US market continues its  spectacular course. Following to the announcements of Athens’ 2 new destinations in the US, Los Angeles and Charlotte, airlines are increasing capacity even more by extending the season or operating into Winter 25/26 season.

For the peak of the Summer, weekly departures to the US will increase to 103 from 82 last year, or from 46 pre-Pandemic.

Norse Atlantic will increase weekly departures for the peak Summer months to 6 from 5 last Summer on the Athens to New York route. However, due to very strong demand for travel from the US market to Athens, the airline very recently announced the addition of 1 weekly frequency to JFK in October, increasing to 5/7 from the previously planned 4/7, plus the airline will continue to operate the service up to 1st of December with 4/7 in November. For comparison, Norse last year operated the very last flight of the season on the 26th of October 2024.

Furthermore, American Airlines just announced the extension of the season for the Philadelphia – Athens route, which will now operate up to 19/11/2025. Summer 2024, the Philadelphia – Athens route was served up to 04/09/2024. All in all, Athens will welcome 21 additional weekly frequencies in the peak of the Summer but most importantly, significant volumes of additional capacity are added in the off-peak and Winter period(s).

Compared to pre-Pandemic, Direct traffic between USA and Athens in 2024 will more than double, recording a growth of an astounding 105%.
