Aruba Airport Celebrates Opening of Third Latin America Regional Hub, Boosting Seat Capacity by 8%

Aruba Airport concluded 2023 on a high note with the launch of its latest route connecting Aruba to Lima, Peru, in partnership with Latin America’s leading airline group, LATAM.

The inaugural event, held on December 2nd, 2023, marks a significant milestone for Aruba as Lima, Peru, becomes the island’s third Latin America regional hub, enhancing connectivity for travelers.

The addition of Lima, Peru, as a destination in Aruba Airport’s expanding network comes a decade after the airline's last operation to the island. Lima will be Aruba’s third Latin America Hub, joining Bogota (serviced by Avianca) and Panama (serviced by Copa). The new Lima route is expected to contribute approximately 2,080 additional monthly seats, increasing Aruba’s overall seat capacity to Latin America by around 8%.

The partnership with LATAM enables Aruba Airport to offer diverse travel options, leveraging LATAM’s domestic operations in five South American countries and its extensive network covering over 140 destinations. The new route provides local travelers with access to sought-after destinations in Latin America, including Argentina, Brazil, Chile, Paraguay, and Uruguay.

Ronella Croes, CEO ATA, expressed enthusiasm about the strategic move, stating, "We have actively pursued a diversification strategy, and this inaugural flight represents a fantastic opportunity to expand our market share of visitors from Latin America. In 2024, we anticipate a strong start, especially from the Southern Cone, with a potential growth of close to 8% compared to 2023."

Joost Meijs, CEO of AAA N.V., emphasized the significance of the new route, stating, "The launch of the Lima route marks a significant moment for Aruba, further strengthening our ties with the Latin America footprint. This partnership with LATAM exemplifies Aruba Airport’s commitment to expanding connectivity and providing travelers with unparalleled access to diverse destinations in the region."

This strategic collaboration not only signifies growth for Aruba but also aligns with LATAM's mission to offer seamless travel experiences, connecting people across the Americas.
