Aruba Airport Celebrates Inaugural Event for Avianca's New Direct Seasonal Flight to Medellin

Aruba Airport recently hosted the inaugural event for its new direct, seasonal flight to Medellin, Colombia, operated by Avianca. This addition marks a significant expansion of Avianca's services to the island, with the airline now offering four flights per week from Medellin (MED) on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.

Avianca announced its plans to expand service in January, demonstrating its commitment to enhancing connectivity between Colombia and Aruba, as well as other Latin American countries. Currently, Avianca is the largest airline serving Aruba from Latin America and ranks among the top five airlines at Aruba Airport. The airline operates 10 weekly flights from Bogota, Colombia, holding a 37% market share in seat capacity from Latin America to Aruba. With the addition of the new seasonal flights, the weekly total will increase to 14, establishing Aruba as the destination with the highest number of weekly flights from Avianca compared to any other island in the Caribbean.

The Medellin to Aruba route has been operational for some time, with Wingo offering four weekly flights. Avianca will use an A320 aircraft with 180 seats for its MED-AUA route, expecting to increase capacity between the two destinations by 90% compared to 2023.

The inaugural event at Aruba Airport was attended by government officials, aviation executives, and esteemed guests. Distinguished attendees included Aruba’s Prime Minister, Mrs. Eveline Wever-Croes, Minister of Tourism & Public Health, Mr. Danguillaume Oduber, Avianca Country Officer and Sales Executive, Ms. Johanna Hernandez, and CEO of Aruba Tourism Authority, Ms. Ronella Croes. The celebration concluded with a traditional ribbon-cutting and cake-cutting ceremony, symbolizing the official commencement of operations on this new route.
