Another Record Breaking Year for Lufthansa at Birmingham Airport
Lufthansa enjoy another record breaking year at Birmingham Airport.
Lufthansa enjoyed another record breaking year in Birmingham during 2012 with the highest number of passengers carried in the airline’s history.
The 2012 figure of just over 586,000 shows an increase of around 21 per cent on the figures for 2011.
Announcing the record year, Christian Schindler, Lufthansa’s General Manager UK & Ireland, said: “Our continued passenger growth at Birmingham in 2012 reinforces our belief that discerning travellers still prefer the added value they receive from a full service airline. They know when they book with Lufthansa the price they pay includes the option to check-in online or at the airport, the ability to take a reasonable amount of luggage and they also enjoy good quality food and drink on board the aircraft, with no hidden extra cost.
“It proves our commitment to Birmingham was fully justified when we added services to Hamburg and Berlin during 2012. As well as offering passengers quick and easy access to many of the main German cities we continue to ensure that our flights to and from Birmingham offer the shortest possible onward connection times to our worldwide network through our hubs of Frankfurt and Munich. Our most popular onward destinations for passengers from Birmingham include Jeddah, Delhi, Beijing, Moscow, Johannesburg, Vienna, Prague and Budapest”
Overall more than 103 million passengers flew with airlines in the Lufthansa Group last year. In total, Lufthansa, Germanwings, SWISS and Austrian Airlines carried 2.5 million (2.4 per cent) more passengers in the January to December term than in the previous year.
