Monarch, the leading scheduled leisure airline, has celebrated the first flights to the World Heritage City of Bordeaux, and Split, Croatia’s second largest city, from Birmingham Airport.
The first passengers to check-in for the inaugural flight to Bordeaux were presented with a ‘golden ticket’ for two free flights to the destination of their choice on the Monarch scheduled network from Birmingham. Mr & Mrs Mann from Winsford, Cheshire, were delighted when they were presented with their surprise voucher.
Bordeaux is the perfect destination for a weekend city break, with flights operating on a Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The city, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a jewel of 18th century architecture and at the centre of one of the largest fine wine regions in the world.
Later in the day passengers on the flight to Split, including the Corti family from Brampton, Cambs and Mr & Mrs Hardwick from Suffolk (pictured), were greeted at check-in with cake and champagne to celebrate the first departure to the new scheduled destination. Split, on Croatia’s Dalmatian Coast, is an increasingly popular destination for holidaymakers providing great transport links to a number of islands including Solta and Brac, as well as other coastal towns and holiday destinations. Flights operate on a Wednesday, Friday and Sunday.
Kevin George, Monarch Airlines’ Managing Director said, “We are delighted to be celebrating the start of these new routes from Birmingham Airport giving our customers in the Midlands an even greater range of summer sun destinations and bringing the total number of Monarch destinations for 2013 from Birmingham Airport to 28. We pride ourselves on offering attractive fares combined with a high standard of service and we are very much looking forward to welcoming customers on these new routes.”
Paul Kehoe, CEO of Birmingham Airport, said, “The launch of these new flights with Monarch to Split and Bordeaux will provide Midlanders with even more choice and affordable fares to these popular summer destinations. We’re delighted that the airline has committed to this expansion from Birmingham where it is now one of our largest airlines.”
