Award winning airline, Turkish Airlines celebrates 10 years of flying from Birmingham Airport. To mark the momentous occasion, employees from Turkish Airlines and Birmingham Airport, as well as passengers, gathered on the day of the very first ever flight from the Airport 10 years ago.
Passengers due to board the 11:05 flight to the airline’s hub of Istanbul were invited to join the festivities, celebrating the airlines growth over the past decade.
In 2008, Turkish Airlines joined Birmingham Airport operating five services per week. In 2012, this grew to a daily service, shortly followed by flights operating up to 12 times a week. From March this year, the airline will increase its services to twice daily.
Tom Screen, Acting Aviation Director at Birmingham Airport said: “Turkish Airlines is an incredibly important partner for Birmingham Airport and our relationship has continued to grow over the 10 years of working together.
“Operating through its hub in Istanbul and connecting to more destinations around the world than any other airline, Turkish Airlines is key to supporting our region’s businesses, our communities seeking to travel to meet friends and family, inbound and outbound tourism and overseas students visiting our many universities.
“We’re excited to see just how far this airline will go. From the end of March, we’re pleased to announce that there will be yet more choice and greater connectivity to long haul destinations when the airline increases services to twice daily.”
Omer Faruk Alier, General Manager at Turkish Airlines: “Today marks an important day in Turkish Airlines’ history, as we celebrate ten years in Birmingham – a key hub for our airline in the UK.
“During the last ten years, we’ve enjoyed welcoming thousands of holiday makers, business travellers and international students on board our aircraft, helping them to widen their world through travel. We look forward to continuing our partnership with Birmingham Airport in 2019 and for many more years to come.”
