Vueling adds 2 new routes from Brussels Airport
Nonstop flights to Alicante and Malaga in Summer 2013
Vueling, the leading airline at Barcelona-El Prat Airport, is strengthening this summer its position in the Belgian market with the launch of two new routes to Alicante and Malaga (Spain). The company announced today at a press conference at Brussels Airport that it has carried more than two million passengers since it first started its flights there in July 2004, initially linking the Belgian capital with the cities of Barcelona and Valencia.
The new flights to Alicante will start on April 24th operating five times a week on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday. On this route Vueling is offering some 39,600 seats between the months of April and October. Furthermore, flights to Malaga, which also start on April 24 with a four times weekly schedule, increasing to five in July during the peak holiday period, add a further 41,120 seats. Overall, Vueling has pledged 80,720 additional seats to the two new routes.
Both routes offer a gateway to the coast of the Mediterranean Sea, a major attraction for tourists from northern Europe seeking guaranteed sunshine destinations to spend their city breaks and summer holidays. Tickets for the new routes are already on sale from 69.99€ through all sales channels: www.vueling.com, travel agencies and tour operators, applications iPhone and Android, and the mobile portal m.vueling.com.
"Our commitment to bolstering our services out of Belgium is in line with our consistent expansion plans in Europe these last two years - a growth strategy which consolidates our position in captive markets. We are delighted to add Alicante and Malaga to the network from Brussels,” said Julio Rodriguez, Vueling’s Chief Commercial Director. Vueling currently connects Brussels with Barcelona-El Prat with three daily flights and Valencia with five weekly flights on Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday and Sunday.
Arnaud Feist, CEO at Brussels Airport stated “The addition of these new routes underscores Vueling’s continued commitment to offer a high quality product at low fares to and from our airport. We welcome the extended choice that Vueling is providing to our passengers to Spain, by far our largest country market. Vueling’s low fares are also available on www.bruxx.be, our dedicated website which highlights some of the best offers from Brussels Airport.”
Connecting flights across Europe, North Africa and the Middle East via Barcelona
In July 2010 Vueling further evolved its business model when it began connecting flights via Barcelona-El Prat Airport. Today, some 2,900 “Vueling to Vueling” combination origin-destination flights are available through El Prat. During 2011, the company carried more than 650,000 passengers on connecting flights and this year it expects to increase this number to two million passengers.
Passengers departing from Brussels this summer may connect from Barcelona to attractive destinations in southern Italy: Naples, Sicily, Bari, Greek Islands (Mykonos, Santorini and Kos), Balearic Islands (Menorca, Palma de Mallorca, Ibiza) or Canary Islands, (Las Palmas, Tenerife, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura). As well as other destinations throughout the Spanish territory. Passengers may also connect with cities in the North of Africa such as Marrakech, Casablanca, Fez, Tangier, Nador, or Banjul in Gambia – all on the Vueling network.
