Budapest Airport announces Ryanair expansion
Photo caption: Experiencing 20% growth at Budapest Airport in 2016, Ryanair continues to expand and announces the commencement of three further links from the Hungarian gateway: Budapest’s first link to Valencia, as well as new connections to Edinburgh and Prague.
Budapest Airport, having already confirmed 12 new routes for 2017, continues to enhance its route network and announces Ryanair will be launching a further three new routes. Having recorded 20% growth in passenger numbers from the Hungarian gateway last year, Ryanair will add another 9 weekly flights to its continuously-expanding services from Budapest, the low-cost carrier (LCC) confirming new links to Valencia, Edinburgh and Prague.
In-demand white spot served
Launching Budapest’s first connection to Valencia, Ryanair will add a link to Spain’s third-largest city. Since witnessing the number of indirect passengers between the cities doubling year-on-year, Ryanair will be filling an attractive gap in the market facing no direct competition on the airport pair. As Budapest’s fifth-largest O&D pair in mainland Spain last year, Valencia now joins the gateway’s existing Spanish links to Madrid, Barcelona, Malaga, Alicante, Ibiza, Palma de Mallorca and the Canary Islands.
Enhancing existing connections
Confirming the expansion of another two of Budapest’s links, Ryanair will also commence services to Edinburgh and Prague later this year. Joining existing connections to both destinations, the LCC will provide additional options for Budapest’s passengers.
Commenting on the announcement, Balázs Bogáts, Head of Airline Development, Budapest Airport, said: “Budapest welcomes this announcement from Ryanair and is delighted to see that one of the largest white spots on our route map will now be filled with our partner’s link to Valencia.” He added: “Ryanair continues to grow with us, with these new destinations the airline will now offer 26 destinations from Budapest.”
