2011/12/09
New carrier, new route: the Scandinavian low-cost airline Norwegian will start its flights from Cologne Bonn Airport with the new summer timetable 2012. From 25 March, Norwegian will be flying the route three times a week and then, as of 26 June, four times. On Sundays, Norwegian lands at 18.35 hours in Cologne/Bonn, and then the Boeing 737-800 with 189 seats takes off for Oslo Gardermoen Airport at 19.10 hours. Mondays and Thursdays, the aircraft lands at 20.55 hours, leaving Cologne/Bonn again for the Scandinavian capital at 21.30 hours. The actual flying time Cologne/Bonn – Oslo is 1 hour and 55 minutes. The low-priced tickets can already be booked under www.norwegian.com.
“With Norwegian, Cologne Bonn Airport has been able to win a high-growth airline that is very successful and one of the best in the low-cost segment in Europe. And with Oslo, we are delighted to have a new, very interesting destination in Scandinavia in our schedule“, said Michael Garvens, Chief Executive Officer at Cologne/Bonn Airport.
The Scandinavian capital Oslo is just over 1000 air kilometres from Cologne/Bonn. Nestled in the inner fjord landscape, Oslo has a particular flair with many places of interest, such as the historical town – Gamlebeyen - with its visible foundations of the old, medieval Oslo, as well as the castle and the Akershus fortress.
Norwegian currently has a modern fleet of 61 aircraft: Boeing 737-300 and 737-800, and has a small fleet of Boeing 787 Dreamliners on order. In 2010, the airline carried some 13 million passengers. In the third quarter of this year, passenger figures amounted to 4.6 million – a 21-percent increase compared to the same quarter last year.
