Cologne Bonn TAPs into Lisbon hub and beyond
Cologne Bonn Airport welcomed its fourth airline to offer scheduled Portuguese flights this summer, as TAP Portugal strengthens the German airport’s existing links to Lisbon. Celebrating the inaugural flight, the Portuguese flag carrier commenced its double-daily service on 15 July, the 1,848 kilometre sector is operated by the airline’s 106-seat E190s.
“We are very happy about our new customer at Cologne Bonn Airport. TAP Portugal offers attractive and easy connections to South America from Lisbon, giving interesting opportunities to our long-haul travelers,” informs Michael Garvens, Chairman of the Management Board, Cologne Bonn Airport.
While the start of these new flights sees Cologne Bonn offer a total of 2,726 weekly seats to Lisbon, and boosts its existing links to Portugal’s capital city, TAP Portugal also significantly increases the airport’s connections via the Star Alliance carrier’s hub. Welcoming its new airline partner will make around 85 important onward destinations across Europe, Africa and America available to Cologne Bonn’s passengers.
Offering flights to 44 countries in S17, the result of this growth makes Portugal the eighth largest country market served from the airport. With the additional throughput on TAP Portugal’s new flights, Cologne Bonn is on course to break the 12 million passenger milestone in 2017.
Marta Alves, TAP Portugal’s Area Sales Manager for Germany, Austria and Switzerland added: “The new Cologne Bonn-Lisbon route is a crucial building block in our strategy for the German market. We are convinced of the success of this new partnership.”
