Vueling to open route from Copenhagen to Rome
Spanish airline Vueling is expanding its route network. On 1 June, the airline will open its sixth route out of Copenhagen - this time with two weekly frequencies to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport and more in the summer.
All roads lead to Rome, we used to say. Today, this proverb should rather be: all air routes lead to Rome. When Vueling expands in Copenhagen on 1 June and launches a non-stop service to the Italian capital, people from Denmark and Italy will have 38 weekly frequencies between the two capitals to choose from.
Around 450,000 passengers, primarily Danes and Italians, flew between Rome and Denmark last year, and the number is growing steadily, at a rate of approximately 8% per year.
“With late morning flights from Copenhagen to Rome on Wednesdays and Sundays as well as Thursdays and Fridays during the summer, Vueling’s new service will be perfect for the many Danes who want to travel to Rome for a weekend break. Being a well known brand in Italy, the airline will be able to attract many Italian travellers wanting a city break in an attractive city such as Copenhagen,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airport.
Altogether, Spanish-based Vueling is growing rapidly at Copenhagen Airport. Vueling currently operates services to Florence, Alicante, Barcelona and Malaga as well as to Paris Charles de Gaulle and offers 26% more seats out of Copenhagen than a year ago.
The new route will be operated to Rome’s Fiumicino Airport (FCO) using the Airbus A320 seating 180 passengers.
“Ever since Vueling first touched down in Copenhagen in 2012, the airline has grown steadily from one route to six non-stop routes today. The selection of Rome as a new destination fits well into this strategy. The number of passengers on the route has grown steadily since 2008, and Rome now ranks number 14 on the list of our busiest destinations,” said Peter Krogsgaard.
“Rome has always been a very popular destination for people both from Denmark and southern Sweden. The culture, food and history and the many sights and experiences Rome offers attract many people to the capital of Italy each year. Vueling’s new service will help give even more Danes the opportunity to visit Rome, and even more Italians will have easy access to Denmark,” said Krogsgaard.
Vueling will offer flights between Rome and Copenhagen on Wednesdays and Sundays. The route opens on Wednesday, 1 June 2016 at 10:40 a.m., and departure times going forward will be on Wednesdays at 10:40 a.m. and Sundays at 10:30 a.m. out of Copenhagen. Furthermore there will be flights on a number of Thursdays and Fridays during the summer season.
