New service from Copenhagen to Istanbul

Turkish airline Atlas Global will be opening a new route between Istanbul and Copenhagen on Friday 24 June 2016. The new service will bring the number of non-stop flights from Copenhagen Airport to Istanbul to close to 200 in July alone.

“Turkey is a preferred holiday destination for Danish holidaymakers. The country offers a rich history and culture along with great weather and fantastic beaches. This is an excellent match that draws a lot of Danish  holidaymakers, and now they will have many more flights to choose from,” said Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airport.

A total of 425,922 people travelled from Copenhagen Airport to Turkey in 2015, and 56% of them travelled to one of Istanbul’s two airports. AtlasGlobal will deploy an Airbus A320 on the new route. It has a seat capacity of 164 passengers, 156 on economy and 8 on business class.

The AtlasGlobal Airbus will have daily flights between the two airports during the summer period, leaving Istanbul at 10.25 a.m. and arriving in Copenhagen at 12.20 p.m. The return flight departs at 2.20 p.m. arriving in Istanbul at 6.30 p.m.

The four airlines flying between Copenhagen Airport and Istanbul operated a total of 142 flights in May. In July, there will be 197 flights, a 38.7% increase compared to May.

“We will get a huge increase in departures when Atlas Global opens its service to Copenhagen. We know from past experience that more flights and more capacity on a route brings more travellers. In particular, more flights and more seats will attract more tourists and more business travellers to Denmark,” explained Krogsgaard.

Both major airports in the Turkish metropolis have non-stop daily services to Copenhagen. AtlasGlobal flies to the Istanbul-Ataturk airport, which has direct onward flights to major domestic destinations such as Izmir, Adana, Antalya, Kayseri, Trabzon and Gaziantep.
