CAP consults with aviation partners about new aeronautical tariffs
On Wednesday the Management of Curaçao Airport Partners (CAP) held their first consultation meeting on aeronautical tariffs with representatives of aviation companies and (governmental) organizations concerned with developments in the aviation industry. The meeting, which can be characterized as open and transparent, is the platform on which CAP informs its aviation partners about the future tariff proposal process for the upcoming years and where all partners can dialogue.
Consultation meetings held with aviation partners is part of the procedure to achieve tariffs that are regulated by the Government of Curaçao. The tariff cycle that is being discussed concerns the period 2016 until 2018. CAP, among others by using external consultants, does research and holds dialogues about its possible proposals with the partners. In the month of May another meeting with the partners will follow and finally at the latest on July 1st CAP will have to hand in its proposal for new tariffs for the period 2016-2018 to the Ministry of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning and the tariff regulator Bureau Telecommunicatie en Post. The Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning makes the final decision, this, after the regulator has analyzed, approved or possibly adjusted the proposal. The last time tariff adjustments took place was December 2012.
During the meeting CAP among others gave a very preliminary indication of the development of airport expenses and gave an idea of what the level of the new tariffs could be. In addition a preliminary dialogue was held about a possible new concept to introduce only one PFC (Passenger Facility Charge/ formerly known as Airport Tax) for all departing passengers instead of different tariffs for international and domestic flights. The benefit would be that the PFC in the International segment could become considerably cheaper, which will stimulate tourism. All which was discussed during the meeting will have to be analyzed and possibly adjusted by the regulator. The Minister of Traffic, Transportation and Urban Planning will make the final decision before the end of this year.
