Icelandair to Operate Nine Weekly Flights from Denver in Summer 2017

Icelandair becomes the first carrier in Denver aviation history to operate double daily transatlantic flights to the same destinations

DENVER – Oct. 11, 2016 – Icelandair announced flights between Denver and Reykjavik will increase from daily to nine weekly flights for summer 2017. For days with two flight operations, the departure and arrival times will be within 30 minutes.

Additional flights:
8 th Weekly Flight: June 1 – Sept. 14
Arrive in Denver on Mondays
Depart from Denver on Tuesdays

9 th Weekly Flight: June 12 – Sept. 4
Arrive in Denver on Thursdays
Depart from Denver on Fridays

Icelandair’s double daily flights on Tuesdays and Fridays will mark the first time in Denver aviation history that a carrier has operated more than one daily flight to the same transatlantic destination. Icelandair began service at Denver International Airport (DEN) in May 2012 with four weekly flights. The summer 2017 schedule represents a 120 percent increase over service levels in summer 2012.

“When Icelandair began service from Denver in 2012, we had great expectations for the Mile High City. Now, five years later, we see enough demand to increase flights to better serve our passengers. We’re pleased to announce that, starting in 2017, Icelandair will offer up to nine non-stop flights a week from Denver to Reykjavik. This increase will make getting to and from more than 25 destinations in Europe even more convenient and give travelers more options when traveling to Iceland and beyond,” said Birkir Holm Gudnasson, Icelandair, CEO.

Travel between Denver and Iceland has increased significantly since 2012. More than 60 passengers per day travel between the two cities, and Reykjavik now ranks as Denver’s eighth-largest market in Europe. Icelandair is also the leading carrier for travelers between Denver and Paris, and a number of Nordic destinations, including Copenhagen, Stockholm and Helsinki.

“Icelandair’s entry into Denver not only created a new market, but travel between Denver and points in Europe was also stimulated as a result of their service,” said DEN CEO Kim Day. “We are pleased that Icelandair will continue to add flights, providing more options than ever before for transatlantic travel from Denver.”
