50th Consecutive Month Of Growth At Dublin Airport
A record 2.9 million passengers travelled through Dublin Airport in May, a 10% increase over the same month last year and the 50th consecutive month of growth at the airport.
This sustained passenger growth over the past four years is the result of a combination of new airlines and route launches since 2014, according to Dublin Airport Managing Director, Vincent Harrison.
“Dublin Airport has welcomed an extra 10 million passengers, 80 new routes and services and 20 new airlines as well as extra capacity to existing services during those 50 consecutive months of growth.”
Mr. Vincent Harrison further added: “Fourteen new routes and services are being added to the airport’s route network this year including new direct routes to Hong Kong with Cathay Pacific and Beijing with Hainan Airlines.”
Passenger volumes to and from continental Europe rose by 12% in May, with more than 1.5 million passengers travelling to European destinations last month.
Almost 871,000 passengers travelled to and from UK destinations in May, which was an increase of 3% compared to last year.
Transatlantic traffic to and from North America increased by 19% with almost 383,000 passengers travelling on this route sector in May.
Other international traffic, principally to the Middle East and Africa, increased by 23% with over 69,000 passengers travelling on these routes during May.
Passenger numbers on domestic routes increased by 27% with more than 10,000 passengers travelling on domestic flights last month.
So far this year, almost 11.6 million passengers have travelled through Dublin Airport, a 6% increase compared to the first five months of last year.
Dublin Airport has welcomed an additional 639,000 passengers between January and May.
The number of passengers using Dublin Airport as a hub to connect to another destination has increased by 14% this year, with almost 567,000 passengers connecting through Dublin Airport in the first five months of this year.
