New Dublin Airport Terminal 2 Transfer Facility
Dublin Airport’s new transatlantic passenger transfer facility welcomed its first customers in a successful trial run yesterday.
Almost 1,400 passengers arriving on UK flights transferred directly to US-bound services in the newly-built connection facility in Terminal 2.
Dublin Airport Head of Transfer, Ronan Fitzsimons, described the new transfer facility as “a massive step forward in our ongoing strategy of enabling passengers to connect from Europe and the UK to North America".
The first passengers to use the new streamlined transfer service arrived on early morning flights from Birmingham and Manchester.
Passengers transferring to and from transatlantic flights are now routed from the Terminal 2 arrivals corridor, through a new check-in area, and down one floor to Terminal 2 departures and US Pre-Clearance.
The new two-storey facility, which has been some two years in the planning, is situated on the east side of Terminal 2 with direct corridor access at both levels.
Transferring passengers are checked through in the normal manner before then passing through a new passport control facility on the lower level.
Ronan Fitzsimons said that, following further trials this week, the new facility will be in full operation very shortly.
He thanked the Transfer and Operations teams, along with AMD and the Planning and Regulation department for their “fantastic support and contribution” in making the new facility a reality.
