ACI Europe Best Airport Awards 2012 - Hamburg Airport wins coveted title of “Best Airport Europe”
As of 21 June, 2012, Hamburg Airport may officially call itself the best Airport in Europe. This underlines once again the airport’s first-class service, excellent quality and satisfied passengers. The airport had already won the Skytrax World Award in the category of “Best Regional Airport Europe” this year. Hamburg Airport won the highly regarded ACI (Airport Council International Europe) Award in the 10-25 million passenger category. A well-respected group of independent Experts, including ACI Asia Pacific, EUROCONTROL, ECAC and the Disabled People’s Association (Denmark) selected Europe’s best airports on the basis of detailed company submissions. There are four categories for the award: 1-5 million passengers, 5-10 million passengers, 10-25 million passengers and more than 25 million passengers.
In Madrid the awards were presented in the course of the of the 22nd ACI EUROPE Annual Congress hosted by Aena Aeropuertos at a formal gala dinner attended by 350 leading personalities in the aviation industry. Airports from across Europe are evaluated in such key areas as customer service, shopping opportunities, safety and security, and environmental issues. Key success factors included the outstanding infrastructure in the public and passenger areas of the terminals, successful partnerships with the airlines, innovative advertising and marketing projects for the airport retail community, effective communication strategies at local, national and international level and the active, sustainable environmental management programme.
The awards were presented to the winning airports by Olivier Jankovec, Director General ACI EUROPE, Jose Maria Palencia, CEO World Duty Free Group, Manuel Lopez Aguilar, Executive SVP Commercial and Customers Iberia, Tan Sri Bashir, President ACI Asia Pacific and CEO of Malaysia Airports and David McMillan, Director General EUROCONTROL.
