Hamburg Airport: Northern Germany’s Gateway to the World

What new destinations do we have this year? Where can passengers fly to direct from Hamburg? Right on time for the peak travel season, Hamburg Airport has published its 2014 summer timetable. It is valid from 30 March until 25 October. With 120 different destinations, there is plenty here for business travellers, fans of city trips, beach holidaymakers, and adventurers alike.

Top value travel from Hamburg: 100 offers under 100 eurosPassengers who want to travel Europe economically are in luck, with 100 of the 120 non-stop destinations in the summer timetable available from prices under 100 euros. The reason? Affordable quality airlines like easyJet, Germanwings, Norwegian and Vueling have increasingly discovered Hamburg in recent years and their operations are continually growing. But the traditional airlines are offering more and more affordable flights too.

Germanwings is significantly expanding its route network from Hamburg, and in the 2014 summer timetable the airline is flying to Rijeka, Thessaloniki, Karlsruhe/Baden-Baden, Verona, Toulouse, Rome and Prague. During the summer holidays, Germanwings will also fly twice weekly to Zagreb, Zadar and Pula.

EasyJet has also continued to expand its route network from Hamburg over recent years, and will be opening a new European base at Hamburg Airport this year. From 31 March, 2014, customers from Hamburg have five new year-round routes to choose from: Copenhagen, Nice, Milan Malpensa, Venice and Palma de Mallorca. And easyJet is also adding six further destinations – Catania, Athens, Ibiza, Naples, Kalamata and Split – for the summer season.

Alongside the seven weekly easyJet frequencies between Hamburg and Copenhagen, Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) is also expanding its operations to Scandinavia. Starting on 22 April, 2014, SAS is operating a new service from Hamburg to Stockholm with eleven departures per week.  This means the total offering is growing to 42 flights per week from Hamburg to Scandinavia. SAS currently operates up to five flights per day from Hamburg to Copenhagen. And Germanwings already offers 17 flights per week to Stockholm.

Norwegian is continuing the expansion of its network between Hamburg and Spain this year. The Scandinavian carrier is introducing new services to Barcelona and Madrid, flying to the two cities from Hamburg twice weekly each.

Germania is expanding its network, too, stationing an aircraft in Hamburg. The airline is operating flights to Palma, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife  on behalf of tour operators, whilst Fuerteventura and Rhodes can also be booked without a package tour. New for 2014 is Aegean Airlines, flying to Athens three times a week along with a twice weekly service to the capital of Crete, Heraklion.

Outlook for winter: Caribbean stays, and here comes Marrakesh It is already definite that the long-haul services to Punta Cana and Cancun , launched last year, will be offered again in the coming winter. And for the first time ever, Hamburg’s timetable will include flights to Marrakesh, starting from 4 November, 2014. The Berlin-based airline, Germania, is expanding its network and will be flying to the “Pearl of the South” twice a week, the only airline to serve the city from northern Germany.

Parking at Hamburg Airport: new fee structure
Passengers who want to come to the airport by car are well catered for with around 12,000 parking spaces available at Hamburg Airport. The fee structure for the car parks is being revised to coincide with the launch of the new summer timetable.

Short-term parking has been extended to allow more time for dropping off and picking up passengers. Starting with the summer timetable, parking tickets are available for 20 minutes, 40 minutes, or 60 minutes for the spaces directly outside the terminals on the Departures Level. Until now, the maximum parking period was 30 minutes. The 20-minute intervals for the first hour will also apply from 30 March at the multi-storey car parks in the immediate vicinity of the terminals such as P1 (from summer 2014), P2, P4 and P5, as well as for the holiday long stay multi-storey car park P8-9 on Weg beim Jaeger.

The maximum daily rate in P1 (from summer 2014) and P2 has been adjusted by one euro to 22 euros. For P4 and P5, a one euro adjustment has also been made, bringing the daily maximum to 25 euros. For all multi-storey car parks the existing flat rates for one and two weeks have been supplemented with an attractive three week flat rate for holidaymakers and business travellers.

The advantages of online parking space bookings
There are special, economic parking fees for those who book early online: One week in the P8-9 long term holiday car park can be booked from 39 euros. Each subsequent day costs 2 euros. From summer 2014 the new multi-storey P1 car park will be available, with 2,800 parking spaces. The parking spaces can already be booked now for a special opening price of 75 euros per week.

Attractive weekend rate
Holidaymakers travelling between Friday and Monday benefit from the special weekend rates for online parking space reservations at Hamburg Airport. P1, close to there terminals, opening in summer 2014, is available for 39 euros for a weekend. The same price applies to the holiday car park, P8-9. The P2 car park, directly in front of the terminals, costs passengers 49 euros for the same period. Parking must begin on Friday or Saturday and end on Sunday or Monday.
