Hamburg Airport presents the 2017 summer timetable

The variety of the route network continues to grow: new destinations and more connections

The new summer timetable comes into effect at Hamburg Airport on 26 March, 2017. It is valid until 28 October, 2017. Around 60 airlines fly to 130 destinations. The airlines are focussing their attention for the 2017 summer season on sun and swimming destinations. There will be 14 completely new destinations in Hamburg’s route network: Verona, Lamezia Terme, Katowice, Venice Treviso, Bologna, Malta, Valencia, Almería, Larnaca, Tallinn, Liverpool, Cluj-Napoca, Bordeaux and Elazig. On routes to another fifteen destinations, passengers will now have the choice of additional airlines.

“Whether its city trips, swimming breaks, or visiting friends – there is great demand for new flight destinations in Hamburg and the metropolitan region,” explains Michael Eggenschwiler, CEO of Hamburg Airport. “With our continually growing route network, we offer our passengers a broad selection of flights with various price and comfort models to bring them to their chosen destination quickly and comfortably.”

New destinations in Hamburg Airport’s route network
A total of 14 completely new routes are extending Hamburg’s route network beginning with the 2017 summer season. From 4 June, easyJet will operate three weekly flights to Bordeaux, along with two weekly flights to Valencia during the high season as of 28 June. Bordeaus is returning to Hamburg’s route network after a short break, as ASL Airlines France suspended operations on the route in September 2016.

Ryanair is also expanding its activities at Hamburg Airport. From 27 March, the Irish airline is operating a new flight to Verona, linking Hamburg to the famous Italian setting of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet” twice a week. Ryanair is adding another Italian destination, Lamezia Terme, which has not been served from Hamburg for a long time. There will be two services a week to this Calabrian city, too, starting on 28 March. On 26 March, Ryanair is launching three weekly services to Venice Treviso, the perfect starting point for vacations on the Italian Adriatic coast. There will also be three weekly flights to Katowice in Poland starting on 27 March, further boosting connections with the region of Silesia. And like easyJet, Ryanair is also launching a service to Valencia, Spain, with three weekly flights there from 2 May.

Blue Air is also adding two destinations that are brand new for Hamburg’s route network – Liverpool and Cluj-Napoca (Klausenburg). From 26 March, it won’t just be the shared historical connections with the legendary band, “The Beatles”, that links Liverpool and Hamburg: there will also be a direct flight four times per week. Starting on 3 June, there will be two weekly flights to the city of Cluj-Napoca in Transylvania, considered a cultural stronghold in Romania.

Malta is returning to Hamburg Airport’s route network after a short interruption. The route to the Mediterranean island, so steeped in history, will be operated twice weekly by Condor from 26 April. Eurowings is launching a twice weekly service to the University city of Bologna in Italy’s Emilia-Romagna region on 9 April. On 5 May, Germania is commencing weekly flights to the southern Spanish city of Almería, a vibrant port in the Andalusia region. Small Planet Airlines is launching a weekly flight to Larnaca, Cyprus, on 7 May, primarily for the tour operator FTI, complementing the existing service from Hamburg to Paphos, Cyprus. Estonia’s national capital will once again be represented in Hamburg’s route network too, starting with the 2017 summer timetable. Nordica Regional Jet is launching three flights per week to Tallinn on 16 May, in cooperation with LOT Polish Airlines. A new service to Elazig means that Hamburg will soon have the ideal connection to Eastern Anatolia. SunExpress will fly to the Turkish city once a week starting on 19 June.

New services to existing destinations
In addition to these completely new destinations, the choice for passengers is growing on many routes as additional airlines add services to popular destinations. Ryanair is adding two popular holiday destinations, Thessaloniki and Faro. There will be three weekly flights to the Greek city of Thessaloniki starting on 28 March. Ryanair will also fly three times a week to Faro, Portugal, as of 1 May.

SunExpress is adding three new destinations from Hamburg Airport for the 2017 summer timetable, expanding its activity in the city, with flights to Fuerteventura, Ankara and Adana. Each of these routes will be served once per week. The service to Ankara commences on 4 May, to Fuerteventura on 5 May, and to Adana on 6 May. easyJet has chosen a summer sun destination with Rhodes, flying to the Greek holiday island twice weekly from 5 June. Condor also has its sights set on Greece, relaunching its service between Hamburg and Kos with a weekly flight from 29 April.

After a brief absence, TUIfly is returning to Hamburg Airport for the 2017 summer timetable, with services to Tenerife, Fuerteventura, Gran Canaria, Crete, Kos, Rhodes, Palma de Mallorca, Menorca and Jerez de la Frontera. The service to Crete will be operated twice weekly, with the other routes operated once weekly.
Hurghada in Egypt will be served by two airlines when the summer timetable starts. SunExpress is flying a charter service for FTI to the city on the Red Sea, whilst Germania is flying a charter service for ETI. Germania is also adding to the existing services to Varna, Bulgaria, from 25 May, with one flight per week in the high season.

Increased frequencies on popular routes
Sun, sand and sea: There will be even more flights to the most popular holiday island for Germans with its capital Palma de Mallorca in summer 2017. easyJet is adding two additional flights to Mallorca to operate a total of nine flights per week. For city breaks and business trips alike, easyJet is increasing the number of flights it offers to the United Kingdom. Services to Manchester will rise by six to a total of eleven flights per week. There will be two extra flights to Edinburgh, bringing the total to six flights per week. Zürich, the small global city with a huge amount of charm and Switzerland’s unofficial capital, will be served by seven weekly easyJet flights in summer 2017, instead of the five flights currently on offer.

From the end of August 2017, Wizz Air will increase the frequency of its services to the Ukrainian capital of Kiev from two to three flights per week. And Wizz Air is also adding capacity on its flights to Gdansk from the end of April by deploying a larger Airbus A321 to replace the Airbus A320 currently in use.

Ryanair is also increasing the frequency of services to Palma de Mallorca: starting with the summer timetable, the airline will fly twice daily to the popular Mediterranean island instead of five flights per week.There will be more flights to Moscow as of June, too, with Aeroflot increasing its services to the Russian capital from seven to fourteen flights per week. In the summer high season, Iberia will offer up to one daily fligh to the Spanish capital of Madrid, instead of the four flights per week currently offered. Blue Air is extending its operations to Bucharest, Romania, operating three flights per week instead of two in the summer timetable. SunExpress is flying twice weekly to Varna, Bulgaria, instead of just once per week.

Outlook for the 2017/2018 winter timetable
Attractive destinations from Hamburg have already been announced for the 2017/2018 winter timetable, too. After a brief break, TUIfly is expanding its route network from Hamburg Airport further, bringing the Cape Verde Islands back to Hamburg’s range of destinations. There will be one weekly flight from Hamburg to the African island nation starting in November. TUIfly is also adding one weekly flight each to the island of floral delights, Madeira, and to Hurghada, Egypt. Condor is turning its attention to the Red Sea, too, with three weekly services to Hurghada. Germania will be commencing weekly flights to Sharm el Sheikh.

At the start of the winter timetable period, Ryanair will add a twice-weekly service to Edinburgh, Scotland. Ryanair will also operate twice-weekly services to Seville and Oslo Torp in the winter season. Additionally, the Irish airline is launching a service to Marrakesh in Morocco. There will be two flights per week to the “Red City” in the winter timetable as this destination returns to scheduled operations from Hamburg.
