Hamburg Airport presents the 2018 summer timetable

The new summer timetable enters operation at Hamburg Airport on 25 March, 2018. It will be valid until 28 October, 2018. Around 60 airlines fly to 130 destinations. The airlines are focussing their attention for the 2017 summer season on sun and swimming destinations along with major cities throughout Europe. Eight completely new destinations are joining Hamburg’s route network: Ljubljana, Zakynthos, Jersey, Trieste, Bilbao, Kayseri, Samos and Bergen. On another eight routes, passengers will now have the choice of additional airlines.

“Together with the airlines, we can once again offer our passengers an attractive route network for the 2018 summer timetable, especially in terms of holiday destinations and major cities all over Europe,” says Michael Eggenschwiler, Chairman of the Executive Board at Hamburg Airport. “We are also in conversations with various airlines to fill the gaps in the market left by the withdrawal of Air Berlin and Niki. The airlines are very interested — Hamburg is a strong market. We are certain that we will be able to compensate for the lost capacity by the end of 2018.”

New destinations in Hamburg Airport’s route network

A total of eight completely new routes are extending Hamburg’s route network beginning with the 2018 summer season. Adria Airways is a new airline for Hamburg Airport, with four flights per week to the Slovenian capital of Ljubljana starting on 1 April. Condor, meanwhile, is focussing on Greece, with a new weekly service to the holidaymakers island of Zakynthos as of 29 April.

Eurowings is adding two new routes for the 2018 summer season. Starting on 6 May, the airline will be flying to the Channel Island of Jersey once a week, with two weekly flights to Bilbao in northern Spain from 2 June. Every second Sunday from 13 May, TUIfly is operating a full charter service for TUI Cruises to Trieste in northern Italy, a perfect starting point for cruise passengers from northern Germany. SunExpress is flying to the south, too, connecting Hamburg with Kayseri in the Cappadocia region of Turkey once a week from 20 June. Germania, like Condor, has turned its attention to Greece as a holiday destination, with a weekly flight to the sunny island of Samos starting on 26 June.

Fans of Norway and the Hurtigruten ferries will be delighted by the new route to Bergen, with two airlines at once launching services there this summer. SAS Scandinavian Airlines is operating three flights per week to Bergen in the peak season, from 25 June to 27 August, 2018. Norwegian carrier Widerøe, meanwhile, is commencing flights on 15 August, to be operated three times per week year-round.

New services to existing destinations

In addition to these completely new destinations, the choice for passengers is growing on eight routes as additional airlines add services to these popular destinations. With new flights on the Hamburg-Munich route, Eurowings is expanding capacity, with up to 25 flights per week to the Bavarian capital alongside the Lufthansa service from 25 March. This makes up entirely for the loss of Air Berlin flights on the route.

Ryanair will also add two more interesting city break destinations to its portfolio of Hamburg services. The airline will be launching two flights per week to Oslo-Torp in Norway from 26 March. And Ryanair’s new route to Edinburgh in Scotland, with four flights per week from 27 March, is perfect for lovers of culture and nature. Eurowings is following the trend towards sunny Greek destinations, joining Condor with two weekly flights to Corfu from 28 April. This year, seats are available for individual booking. And from the end of August, Tailwind Airlines is operating a weekly service to the Turkish beach resort of Bodrum as a charter service for tour operator FTI.

On behalf of flight broker Involatus Carrier Consult, the Greek airline Olympus Airways is to enrich Hamburg's route network with a weekly flight to Fuerteventura as of 23 March. A second weekly flight will be added at the end of June. And from 2 June, Olympus Airways is also to fly twice weekly to Tenerife from 2 June, and once weekly to Gran Canaria from 25 June, again on behalf of Involatus.

Increased frequencies on popular routes

Condor is flying even more frequently to the favourite island of Hamburg passengers, Mallorca, with up to two daily flights to Palma de Mallorca instead of the current single daily flight. Seating capacity to Hurghada in Egypt is increasing by 200 percent this summer. The biggest airlines on the route are Condor and Small Planet Airlines, the latter flying a charter service for tour operator FTI. SWISS is also boosting its capacity to Zurich, going from four to up to six flights per day to the Swiss metropolis. This means there are now more flights on the route than last summer, when it was served by two airlines.

Aegean Airlines is increasing the frequency of flights to Athens during the summer season, going from four to six flights per week, almost completely compensating for the loss of easyJet capacity on the route. The new service to Nantes, launched by HOP! Air France this winter, will be boosted from three to up to six flights per week. And British airline flybe is going from four to six flights per week on its Birmingham service.

easyJet continuing to operate from Hamburg Airport

easyJet will offer a wide range of routes from Hamburg Airport in the 2018 summer timetable. After the base closes at the end of March 2018, the airline will continue to operate a total of nine routes to and from Hamburg. Services will continue to operate to Basel, Bordeaux, Edinburgh, Geneva, London Gatwick, Manchester, Naples, Nice and Venice. Hamburg Airport anticipates a capacity of over one million seats, which is more than half of the number of passengers currently carried by easyJet here.
