Jacksonville International Airport Passenger Traffic Climbs in June
JAA Announces First Increase in Eight Months
JACKSONVILLE, July 27, 2010 - The Jacksonville Aviation Authority (JAA) announced that the number of passengers traveling through Jacksonville International Airport (JAX) jumped 8.6 percent in June, the first monthly year-over-year increase in eight months.
During the month of June, the total number of passengers boarding and deplaning aircraft at JAX increased by 42,878 passengers as compared with June 2009. June is typically a busier month as more travelers head out on vacation.
But this June is showing signs of stronger demand as major airlines have been announcing higher occupancies on their flights.
"It certainly appears that the public is willing to travel more," said Michael Stewart, Director of External Affairs for the JAA. "But one month of an upswing in traffic does not make a trend. We're hopeful that we're seeing a return of more robust air traffic, but we'll just have to wait and see how things develop."
The total number of passengers in June was 541,906. That is 8.6 percent more than the 499,028 passengers who passed through JAX in June 2009.
