13.3% , it’s the freight growth for the first eight months of 2014. This strong showing is due largely to the fruitful partner-ship built between Aéroports de Lyon and Emirates, which launched its cargo business at Lyon-Saint Exupéry on July 3rd 2013. Although the biggest segment at LYS is still express freight (80% of the total), growth has been boosted by trade on the Lyon-Dubai route – in the hold of Emirates’ passenger services and also on its weekly cargo flight. The airline is also looking at a further cargo rotation, in particular to develop Lyon-bound trade
Lyon-Saint Exupéry is also making a name for itself in the equine world. In recent months, nearly 300 horses have boarded at CargoPort, whose operators and services display their full capability in managing this sensitive freight, which calls for responsive, specialised logistics. Rhône-Alpes is one of Europe’s top equine-sector regions and Aéroports de Lyon aims to expand also the inbound part of the business.
