One million passengers in July: Marseille Provence airport sets a new monthly record for attendance
Marseille Provence airport welcomed one million passengers in July, 2019, for the first time ever. A +8.6% increase compared to July last year.
Last July, 1,050,320 passengers travelled via Marseille Provence airport. A record for the first month of Summer Break, raised by international traffic (+11.9%).
This 1+ million passengers is completing the 4,740,759 passengers who already departed from or arrived in Marseille and the Provence through its airport since early 2019.
With a total of 5,791,079 passengers welcomed at the end of July, 2019 (+8.4%), Marseille Provence airport is growing up steadily and its ten million passengers’ goal for 2019 is right on track.
- Domestic traffic, which represents about one third out of total traffic, increased by 3.7% last July. Thanks to Ryanair’s route opening and EasyJet’s developments, traffic to Bordeaux experienced an important growth last month (+37%), much like the one for Nantes Atlantique airport (+10.2%).
- International traffic, which accounts for two thirds out of total traffic, increased by 11.9% thanks to new developments this summer, as Moscow and Addis Ababa. New routes heading to Stockholm, Copenhagen, Luxemburg or Warsaw achieved great success too, as well as existing routes towards Great Britain (+13.3%), Spain (+16.7%), or Italy (+18.7%).
As a reminder, 30 new routes, including 21 new destinations helped to expand Marseille Provence airport’s network in 2019. In total, from MRS this year, travellers can fly to 125 destinations, in 34 countries, served by 37 scheduled carriers.
Philippe Bernand, Chairman of the Executive Board of Marseille Provence airport:
“We are really pleased to pass, in July, 2019, the milestone of 1 million passengers welcomed. This is the result of constant work by operational teams, of the trust airlines have in us and with whom we build real partnership relations, and of Marseille Provence airport and its territory’s vitality. These results also confirm the relevance of our strategic model, aiming at developing domestic network, international routes and those toward important hubs. As the gateway to South-East France, Marseille Provence airport reinforces its status among French airports’ landscape”.
