Connecting Norway

In June 2014, the Norwegian Government decided to introduce "simplified transfer" at Oslo Airport. The pilot scheme will take effect on September 1st under the new name "Connecting Norway", but will initially only apply to a small number of passengers.

“This is a trial, which will initially apply to travellers flying via Oslo Airport with SAS, Norwegian or Widerøe. In the beginning, the scheme will apply to all flights from Milan. After that we will gradually include more flights and airlines,” says Managing Director Øyvind Hasaas, adding:

“The process will ensure that we have a good, thoroughly tested solution when the trial eventually applies to the majority of passengers who land at Oslo Airport with a through ticket to their final destination.

Easier travel - better travel experience
The pilot scheme is for those travellers who arrive in Norway on international flights and switch to a domestic service for the final leg of their journey. These passengers currently have to collect their luggage in the baggage hall and recheck it. With Connecting Norway, they will go directly from the aircraft to a new customs area in the international departures hall, where they will go through customs. From there they will walk straight into the domestic departures hall. All customs will be done at Oslo Airport.

“That means they will not have to go through another security check and they will have a shorter distance to walk. The aim is to give passengers with stopovers at Oslo Airport an even better experience,” says Hasaas.

It is important to note that those who want to shop for duty-free goods must do this in the duty-free shop in departures, before going through customs.

Only for passengers with through tickets
The scheme applies only to passengers travelling with through tickets. That means that the luggage tag is marked with the final destination and not with "OSL" when checking in abroad. For example, passengers travelling from Milan to Bardufoss with a stopover at Oslo Airport will have BDU on their ticket if they have a through ticket.

The majority of passengers with stopovers at Oslo Airport currently have through tickets.
