Ethiopian Airlines to expand at Avinor Oslo Airport

Since launching on 27 March 2017, Ethiopian Airlines has firmly established itself at Norway’s main airport. The route between Addis Abeba and Oslo Airport will see an increase to six weekly flights, and Ethiopian Airlines will also expand their service offering a new route between Asmara and Oslo Airport.

From December 11th, Ethiopian Airlines will be increasing its frequency between Addis Ababa and Avinor Oslo Airport, which means the route will be operated six times a week using Ethiopian’s Boeing 787-8 Dreamliner.

‘We have developed a very close partnership with Ethiopian Airlines, and have worked hard with them to make this route a success story. This is proof that our cooperation has worked well, and that Ethiopian has succeeded in developing a good portfolio of business, holiday and leisure passengers”, says Jasper Spruit, Vice President Traffic Development at Avinor.

“Export and import between Africa and Norway is an important part of this success, and we also see more tourism coming to Norway from Africa as well”.

Ethiopian Airlines is a member of Star Alliance, which means that passengers can easily use Oslo Airport to transit.

"Ethiopian has really made its mark on Oslo Airport since launching last year, and its membership of Star Alliance is an important factor in passengers securing an effective way of travelling between Norway and Africa," says Spruit.

Asmara to be added
In addition to six weekly passenger departures from Oslo Airport, Ethiopian Airlines will commence two weekly flights between Oslo Airport and the capital of Eritrea, Asmara, from December 1st.

“We are pleased to witness the success of our flight from Addis Ababa to Oslo, which has now increased to six flights per week. The Oslo route has proven to be a success within just one year of its launch. It will soon become daily and we plan to add new services to Oslo from Asmara in December 2018. Thru these flights, we are serving the growing travel need between Africa and Northern Europe,” says Mr. Tewolde GebreMariam, Group CEO Ethiopian Airlines.

The addition of Asmara to Oslo Airports route network, will mean 8 weekly flights to and from Norway’s main airport with Ethiopian’s Boeing 787 Dreamliner.

“With announcement of Asmara as a second destination from Oslo Airport with Africa’s largest airline, the total of eight weekly frequencies will add even better connectivity for Norwegian business and leisure travelers to Africa. We are looking forward to further develop a great cooperation with Ethiopian Airlines”, says Majid Khan, Senior Director Traffic Development at Avinor.
