International passenger traffic at Novosibirsk International Airport increased by more than a quarter in 2012
For the period of 12 months 2012, Novosibirsk International Airport showed steady growth having served 3,266,745 passengers which is 18.1% higher than in 2011 exceeding the budget by 3.5% (3,155 million passengers).
The passenger traffic on international routes made up 25.9% (1,250,978 passengers), on domestic routes – 13.7% (2,015,767 passengers). For the period January-December the airport reports 37,070 ATMs (+7.3%).
In December 2012, passenger traffic grew by 12% (262,834 passengers) compared to the same period of the previous year. Traffic on domestic routes shows 151,499 passengers (+0.6%), on international – 111,335 passengers (+32.5%). For December 2012, the airport reports 3,102 ATMs (9.3% increase to the year 2011).
For 12 months period of 2012 Novosibirsk International Airport handled 28,028 tons of cargo and mail (+29%), while in December – 2,724 tons (+8%).
The growth of all positions at Novosibirsk airport was determined by arrival of new passenger and cargo airlines including Turkish Airlines, Yangtze River Express, Azerbaijan Airlines, Belavia and others as well as the opening of new routes. Increase of flight frequencies on existing destination (Beijing, Dubai, Moscow, Bishkek, Osh and others), growing number of technical stops of foreign cargo airlines and successful airport marketing strategy also contributed to the outstanding performance. In 2012 Novosibirsk International Airport in cooperation with partner airlines launched over 10 new domestic and international routes such as Minsk, Istanbul, Dusseldorf, Sharjah, Kulob, Munich, Hong-Kong, Fergana, Ganja, Omsk, Blagoveshchensk and others. In the near future the airport expects to launch direct flights to Helsinki, Tel-Aviv, Seoul, Kaliningrad, Tyumen and other destinations.
Passenger forecast for 2013 is 3.7 million passengers, while cargo and mail traffic is expected to be more than 35 thousand tons.
Novosibirsk International Airport (Tolmachevo) is the largest air hub east of the Urals on major transit routes between Europe and Asia. The capacity on domestic flights is 1 800 passengers per hour, on international flights - 750 passengers per hour. The airport has two runways. The airport has been nominated for World Routes Awards in the category "The Best Airport of CIS 2012".
