Sofia Airport hits 4 million passengers in 2015

Sofia Airport celebrated 4 million passengers since the beginning of year 2015 - an ever breaking record for any Bulgarian airport. Sofia Airport’s Top destination – London delivered the 4th million passenger. Our counter stopped on the name of Mrs Jasmina Christoph who flew aboard on inbound flight BA 890 from London Heathrow. The lucky passenger was greeted by Mr. Hristo Shterionov, CEO of Sofia Airport, and Mrs. Asya Ivanova, Member of the Board of Directors of Sofia Airport and received numerous gifts. The 4th million passenger walked under the festive sounds of brass orchestra.

The impressive passengers figure is a predetermined result of Sofia Airport ceaseless efforts toward developing the connectivity of the destination by enlargement of the route network, improving the existing infrastructure in order to accommodate the traffic surge and above all it is all about enhancing passenger experience.

In 2016 Sofia Airport passengers will be spoiled with ever broaden choice of convenient connections to numerous destinations. A total of 7 new routes are to be delivered in the coming year starting with Bristol from January followed by Pisa, Alicante, Lubeck, Oslo Torp, Lisboan and summer Palermo. Furthermore, Sofia Airport will welcome a new member to its ever-enlarging airlines’ family as Ryanair is expected to start scheduled flights from London Stansted in April 2016 becoming the 22nd airline at Sofia Airport. The stirring news continues with great number of increased frequencies from Summer 2016 to Istanbul served 3 times per day and to Warsaw with 17 weekly frequencies; the return of Air Berlin on the route to Berlin Tegel with daily services from Sofia Airport.

The record traffic number is marked with relevant infrastructural improvements. Construction of a new speed taxiway and the on-going enlargement of the deicing platform will increase the airfield capacity and improve flight on-time performance at Sofia Airport.
