Non-stop from Berlin to Los Angeles with airberlin

Now also daily to New York / New service from Berlin to Gdańsk, more flights to Kraków

airberlin is expanding its range of long-haul flight offerings from Berlin to North America: starting from the summer flight schedule in May 2012, Germany's second-largest airline will be offering three non-stop flights a week from Berlin to Los Angeles, making it the only airline to operate non-stop flights between the German capital and the west coast of America. At the same time, airberlin is increasing flight frequencies from Berlin to New York, offering daily flights instead of the previous four flights a week to the Big Apple from May 2012.

The airline is also stepping up its presence in Poland by offering non-stop flights from Berlin to Gdańsk as of May 2012. Travellers will be able to fly to the Polish seaport up to twice daily. airberlin had started operating flights to Gdańsk as early as summer 2010. Flight operations will now be resumed, enabling Gdańsk to be linked once again to the Berlin hub. The airline is increasing flight frequencies to Kraków from four to twelve weekly connections. This constant link between Gdańsk, Kraków and Berlin will result in 750 additional transfer flights at the airport.

According to Hartmut Mehdorn, CEO of airberlin: "By adding new non-stop flights to America and Poland and increasing frequencies, we are ultimately strengthening our position in Berlin in the long term. The respective expansion of our Berlin hub is another key step forward as regards the new Capital Airport and becoming a full member of the oneworld® alliance in spring 2012."

Klaus Wowereit, Chairman of the Supervisory Board of Berlin Airports and Governing Mayor, said: "By adding the flights from Berlin to our twin city Los Angeles, we are realising a long-harboured dream: finally, we can fly non-stop from Berlin to the west coast of America. This is a positive sign for the future development of the new Willy Brandt Airport into a Berlin gateway to the rest of the world."

Prof. Dr. Rainer Schwarz, CEO of Berlin Airports, said: "Last week, the Federal Administrative Court announced its decision regarding off-peak flights at the new Berlin Brandenburg Airport and thus set the course for the future of air traffic in the capital region. Airlines now have planning security: airberlin's increased presence at the Berlin airports is a positive signal for the capital region. The new connection to Los Angeles provides the people of Berlin and Brandenburg with their 14th long-haul route. This shows that air traffic is a growth market in terms of quantity and quality and that Berlin Airports remains on course for success." The new routes to Los Angeles and Gdańsk can be booked immediately online at airberlin.com, in the company's Service Centre (phone +49 1805 737-800; €0.14/min. from a German landline, max. €0.42/min. from a mobile phone) and at a travel agent.
